Damage from Hurricane Helene September 27, 2024.

In the worst of the storm around 5:30 a.m. What sucked the most was not being able to see anything, but hearing the wind and things hitting the roof.
I live over 130 miles from the coast. Never thought we would get hit by a hurricane this far inland.
Top of a Sweetgum that hit the gutter right above the doors to my bedroom where we stayed for most of the storm.

7+ trees down on this side of the house. 5-6 holes in the roof and one landed on the HVAC unit and destroyed it.

Backyard - First Light

My first view of the destruction of Helene as the sun rose Friday morning.

Backyard

Loads of debris and a couple of snapped off tree tops in the backyard. Two of them hit the roof/gutters.

Sideyard

Hardest hit part of the property. There are 7+ trees down here. Some hit the roof and left multiple holes. One also destroyed our HVAC unit.

Cleanup Begins

Spent Friday afternoon cleaning up the backyard debris. Got about a third of it done. There is still a large branch over the back of the fence, a large tree top on the right side of the yard, and smaller limbs and leaf debris at the back and left. Also worked all day Sunday to cut and remove limbs that fell on and near our HVAC, so that there is room to bring in a replacement unit and to repair the roof.
